  
In a world without GPS units and satellite photos, one man and one survey decided a list of altitudes for the state of North Carolina must be compiled. Using a variety of sources, especially railroads, this list became NCGS Bulletin 27. The altitudes are arranged by town or station, as well as by county. Compiled by J.H. Pratt and the NC Geological Survey, 1917. 124 pages.
