MOUNTAIN ISLAND LAKE, North Carolina: Analysis of Ambient Conditions
and Simulation of Hydrodynamics, Constituent Transport, and Water-Quality
Characteristics, 1996-97:
USGS Water-Resources Investigations Report 01-4138

The purpose of this report is to (1) characterize ambient hydrologic and water-quality conditions in Mountain Island Lake and the coves of two main tributaries (Gar Creek and McDowell Creek), (2) document calibration of the CE-QUAL-W2 model for Mountain Island Lake, and (3) present results of model simulations for selected scenarios. As outlined in the USGS and Water-Resources Division strategic plans, the USGS has a commitment to conduct scientific investigations that provide for better protection of water supplies and develop simulation models that are capable of predicting the responses of natural systems to external changes. Prepared in cooperation with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities.
